President’s Letter

Welcome to the new 2010 – 2011 season from the Board of Greater Tampa Junior Golf Association.  Jim Stanger and Tim Glennie, as co-presidents, would like to welcome you and invite you to participate in this season’s activities on behalf of junior golfers in our community.

We would like to keep this letter relatively short and to the point.

  • Goals and Objectives of Greater Tampa:

For the junior golfers (and families) in our community: provide one-day professionally run competitive events during the school year for the intermediate to advanced junior golfers for the 18-hole division, and more developmental for the 9-hole division.

  • Volunteer Organizations:

Just a reminder to thank:

  1. The Board members for giving their time voluntarily.
  2. Our host golf courses who donate the course to our young golfers for each of our events.
  3. Our Florida State Golf Association Rules Officials (which help make our tournaments so professional) for their time they give - so much more than with normal tournaments.

  • Parents and Golfers Behavior:

Parents, we continuously ask for you to not call golf courses where we hold our events.  The coordination of our tournaments and informational questions, complaints, compliments, etc. should be directed to Greater Tampa Junior Golf directly.  This will help us to continue to secure courses in the future.  We also ask that you take time to read our:

  1. Golfer behavior policy
  2. Spectator policy and
  3. Dress code policies for your junior golfers, yourself, and any guests that come to participate.

GTJGA would also like for spectators and parents to always remember that we are guest at these clubs and any negative behavior by parents and spectators effects us being invited back the next year. We lost two long standing host courses this past season because of this and we would encourage you to abide by our spectator policy. GTJGA will strictly enforce our spectator policy this upcoming season. Please refrain from calling the clubs to voice your opinions to the club staff regarding starting times, who your child is paired with, cost of carts and range balls. Remember these private courses are donating the course to GTJGA.

We look forward to serving our community and the golfers in your family in this new season.  Greater Tampa Junior Golf is now well over 30 years of continuous service!!
